Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in Poppler. Impacted is the function tilingPatternFill of the component Splash Backend. The manipulation results in integer overflow. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-10118. Attacking locally is a requirement. No exploit is available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Poppler (unknown version). Affected is the function tilingPatternFill of the component Splash Backend. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in Poppler's Splash backend. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by crafting a malicious PDF file that, when rendered, triggers an integer overflow in the `tilingPatternFill` function. This overflow leads to an undersized heap memory allocation, allowing a subsequent out-of-bounds write. Successful exploitation could result in arbitrary code execution, information disclosure, or denial of service within the context of the application processing the PDF.

The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-10118 since 05/29/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 06/22/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 320438 (Oracle Linux 8 : poppler (ELSA-2026-24984)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (320438) and EUVD (EUVD-2026-33694). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
