Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Google Android 14/15/16/16-qpr2. Affected by this vulnerability is the function createSessionInternal of the file PackageInstallerService.java. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In createSessionInternal of PackageInstallerService.java, there is a possible to update a Device Policy Controller (DPC) into an invalid directory due to a path traversal error. This could lead to local escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.
