Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in RRWO Net::CIDR::Set up to 0.20 on Perl. Affected is the function add. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper validation of specified type of input vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1287. The product receives input that is expected to be of a certain type, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input is actually of the expected type. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Net::CIDR::Set versions through 0.20 for Perl did not validate IP addresses. The add method called the _encode method to parse addresses. If the addresses did not look like netmasks or network ranges, then they were assumed to single IP addresses and passed back to itself as a 32-bit or 128-bit netmask. If the argument was not a well-formed IP address, then this would lead to indefinite recursion. An attacker could use this to cause a denial of service.
The advisory is shared for download at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-49941 since 06/02/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
