NAVTOR NavBox through version 4.16.1.20 contains hard-coded credentials within its Windows Communication Foundation (SOAP) implementation. If the SOAP functionality is enabled, a local attacker can extract credentials to bypass the intended transfer workflow. Successful authentication against the SOAP interface grants access to privileged WCF methods, enabling an attacker to write or overwrite files within application-defined paths.
The weakness was presented with Cydome Security Ltd as icsa-26-155-01. The advisory is shared at cisa.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-21404 since 01/28/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1110.001 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 4.17.2.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
