Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in haxtheweb haxcms-php and haxcms-nodejs up to 25.x. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file site.json of the component saveOutline Endpoint. The manipulation of the argument location with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
HAX CMS helps manage microsite universe with PHP or NodeJs backends. Prior to version 26.0.0, an Authenticated Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability in the HAXCMS saveOutline endpoint allows a low-privileged user to read arbitrary files on the server by manipulating the location field written into site.json. This enables attackers to exfiltrate sensitive system files such as /etc/passwd, application secrets, or configuration files accessible to the web server (www-data). Version 26.0.0 patches the issue.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-46397 since 05/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
