RSA Bsafe Crypto-c up to 6.3.0 Libraries denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in RSA Bsafe Crypto-c up to 6.3.0. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Libraries. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

The RSA Crypto-C before 6.3.1 and Cert-C before 2.8 libraries, as used by RSA BSAFE, multiple Cisco products, and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via malformed ASN.1 objects.

The weakness was published 05/23/2007 with US-CERT as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-3894 since 07/26/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49004 (Vulnerability In Crypto Library - Cisco Systems), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43271 (Cisco IOS Crypto Library Denial of Service Vulnerability (cisco-sa-20070522-crypto)).

Upgrading to version 6.3.1 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (34430), Tenable (49004), SecurityFocus (BID 24104†), OSVDB (35338†) and Secunia (SA25364†). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
