Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.6/7.1-rc2. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component pseries. The manipulation of the argument ioctl with an unknown input leads to a deadlock vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-833. The product contains multiple threads or executable segments that are waiting for each other to release a necessary lock, resulting in deadlock. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: pseries/papr-hvpipe: Fix race with interrupt handler While executing ->ioctl handler or ->release handler, if an interrupt fires on the same cpu, then we can enter into a deadlock. This patch fixes both these handlers to take spin_lock_irq{save|restore} versions of the lock to prevent this deadlock.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-46298 since 05/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
