Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.6/7.1-rc2 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function kzalloc_flex of the component staging. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: staging: rtl8723bs: os_dep: avoid NULL pointer dereference in rtw_cbuf_alloc The return value of kzalloc_flex() is used without ensuring that the allocation succeeded, and the pointer is dereferenced unconditionally. Guard the access to the allocated structure to avoid a potential NULL pointer dereference if the allocation fails.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-46305 since 05/13/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
