Dell Client Platform BIOS contains a Weak Encoding for Password vulnerability. An unauthenticated attacker with physical access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of Privileges.
The weakness was shared by Darren Mcdonald as dsa-2026-197. The advisory is shared at dell.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-40639 since 04/14/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
