Apple QuickTime for Java 7.1.6 on Mac OS X and Windows does not properly restrict QTObject subclassing, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a web page containing a user-defined class that accesses unsafe functions that can be leveraged to write to arbitrary memory locations.
The bug was discovered 05/29/2007. The weakness was published 05/30/2007 by John McDonald, Paul Griswold, Tom Cross and Dyon Balding with Secunia Research as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-2388 since 04/30/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
