NLnet Labs ldns up to 1.9.0 Destination origin validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in NLnet Labs ldns up to 1.9.0. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component Destination Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a origin validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-346. The product does not properly verify that the source of data or communication is valid. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

NLnet Labs ldns 1.2.0 up to and including versions 1.9.0, when used in applications as (stub) resolver over UDP, lacks matching the query destination address and port with the response source address and port. Furthermore not the query ID, neither the question of the query is matched with that of the response. This makes applications, that use ldns for (stub) resolver functionality over UDP, vulnerable for off-path poisoning attacks. The drill tool, which is shipped with ldns, suffers from this vulnerability.

The weakness was released by Pablo Ruiz. The advisory is available at nlnetlabs.nl. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-10846 since 06/04/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 320443 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-10846), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
