Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in metal3-io ip-address-manager up to 1.11.6/1.12.3/1.12.x. This affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unnecessary privileges vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-250. The product performs an operation at a privilege level that is higher than the minimum level required, which creates new weaknesses or amplifies the consequences of other weaknesses. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

IPAM is the IP address Manager for Cluster API Provider Metal3. Prior to versions 1.11.7, 1.12.4, and 1.13.0, the IPAM controller's ClusterRole granted full CRUD permissions (create, delete, get, list, patch, update, watch) on core/v1 Secrets. The controller never accesses Secrets during normal operation. If the controller pod were compromised (e.g. via supply chain attack or container escape), an attacker could leverage these excessive permissions to read, modify, or delete Secrets in the namespace, potentially exposing credentials and other sensitive data. This issue has been patched in versions 1.11.7, 1.12.4, and 1.13.0.

The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-47190 since 05/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 1.11.7, 1.12.4 or 1.13.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-36463). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
