Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in MariaDB Server up to 10.6.26/10.11.17/11.4.11/11.8.7/12.3.1. Affected is an unknown code block of the component joiner Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From versions 10.6.1 to before 10.6.27, 10.11.1 to before 10.11.18, 11.4.1 to before 11.4.12, 11.8.1 to before 11.8.8, and 12.3.1, during the SST the donor node is interpolating parameters that the joiner sent into the command line. Not all parameters were properly validated which could allow a malicious joiner to execute arbitrary shell commands on the donor side via the rsync SST method. This issue has been patched in versions 10.6.27, 10.11.18, 11.4.12, 11.8.8, and 12.3.2.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-48163 since 05/21/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
Upgrading to version 10.6.27, 10.11.18, 11.4.12, 11.8.8 or 12.3.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
