TIMLEGGE Crypt::DSA up to 1.20 on Perl sign nonce re-use

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in TIMLEGGE Crypt::DSA up to 1.20 on Perl. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function sign. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a nonce re-use vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-323. Nonces should be used for the present occasion and only once. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:

Crypt::DSA versions before 1.21 for Perl reused the nonce across signatures, leading to private-key recovery. Crypt::DSA::sign caches the per-signature nonce material in the Key object without ever clearing it. The first sign() on a Key object picks a nonce, and every later sign() on that same object reuses it, producing an identical "r". Keys used to sign more than once with an affected version should be considered compromised.

The weakness was released by Richard Kettlewell. The advisory is available at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-12205 since 06/14/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 321125 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-12205), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 1.21 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (321125) and EUVD (EUVD-2026-37016). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
