Details
A vulnerability was found in Splunk AI Toolkit up to 5.7.3. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown functionality of the component Configuration Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Splunk AI Toolkit versions below 5.7.4, a user who holds the "admin" Splunk role could execute arbitrary OS commands on the host running the Splunk Enterprise instance. The vulnerability is possible because of an unsafe shell execution pattern in the btool configuration helper, which constructs OS command strings from dynamic parameters without disabling shell interpretation.
The advisory is shared at advisory.splunk.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-20266 since 10/08/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
