Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in eemitch Simple File List Plugin up to 6.3.7 on WordPress. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function is_admin of the file wp-config.php of the component Path Validation Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The Simple File List plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the eeSFL_DeleteFile function in all versions up to, and including, 6.3.7. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). The simplefilelist_edit_job AJAX action is registered via wp_ajax_nopriv_, making it accessible without authentication, and the is_admin() guard that would otherwise restrict access is bypassed because is_admin() always returns true for requests to the admin-ajax.php endpoint.

The weakness was published by Chloe Chamberland. The advisory is shared at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-11911 since 06/10/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

By approaching the search of inurl:wp-config.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Upgrading to version 6.3.6 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-38106). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
