Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 batman-adv batadv_gw_node_free gw state issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function batadv_gw_node_free of the component batman-adv. The manipulation of the argument gw with an unknown input leads to a state issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-371. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: batman-adv: clear current gateway during teardown batadv_gw_node_free() removes the gateway list entries during mesh teardown, but it does not clear the currently selected gateway. This leaves stale gateway state behind across cleanup and can break a later mesh recreation. Clear bat_priv->gw.curr_gw before walking the gateway list so the selected gateway reference is dropped as part of teardown.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-52926 since 06/09/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/24/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.258, 5.15.209, 6.1.175, 6.6.142, 6.12.92, 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
