Linux Kernel up to 7.0.9 KVM kvm_s390_pci_aif_enable gait out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.174/6.6.140/6.12.90/6.18.32/7.0.9. Affected by this issue is the function kvm_s390_pci_aif_enable of the component KVM. The manipulation of the argument gait leads to out-of-bounds. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-52968. There is no exploit available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.174/6.6.140/6.12.90/6.18.32/7.0.9. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function kvm_s390_pci_aif_enable of the component KVM. The manipulation of the argument gait with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: s390: pci: fix GAIT table indexing due to double-scaling pointer arithmetic kvm_s390_pci_aif_enable(), kvm_s390_pci_aif_disable(), and aen_host_forward() index the GAIT by manually multiplying the index with sizeof(struct zpci_gaite). Since aift->gait is already a struct zpci_gaite pointer, this double-scales the offset, accessing element aisb*16 instead of aisb. This causes out-of-bounds accesses when aisb >= 32 (with ZPCI_NR_DEVICES=512) Fix by removing the erroneous sizeof multiplication.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-52968 since 06/09/2026. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/24/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.1.175, 6.6.141, 6.12.91, 6.18.33 or 7.0.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 31a9d9f9942885aae356a1a57c79e82c5b5b0828/a99a25db131ece5e6c0f7632da606de631efe4f2/11b8ff5b930b351dd1f6f088dce0beb027ac92d0/b22a2da8792a7bfe743c1a922e77fa499ddedbe8/e7216651b94e92e5433fb2f54b77864642b4ea48/16d990a15491cf76cd6eef0846e1b4100e63261a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
