Details
A vulnerability has been found in Appsmith up to 2.0 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file /api/v1/admin/env of the component RPC Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a permissive list of allowed inputs vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-183. The product implements a protection mechanism that relies on a list of inputs (or properties of inputs) that are explicitly allowed by policy because the inputs are assumed to be safe, but the list is too permissive - that is, it allows an input that is unsafe, leading to resultant weaknesses. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Appsmith is a platform to build admin panels, internal tools, and dashboards. Prior to 2.1, Appsmith's bundled supervisord exposes an XML-RPC interface on port 9001, reachable from outside the container via a Caddy reverse-proxy route at /supervisor/* on the public ingress. Combined with the APPSMITH_SUPERVISOR_PASSWORD exposed via GET /api/v1/admin/env, any authenticated administrator can send arbitrary XML-RPC calls to supervisord and execute OS commands inside the Docker container via twiddler.addProgramToGroup. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.1.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-50189 since 06/04/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
