Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.12. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component accel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: accel/ethosu: reject NPU_OP_RESIZE commands from userspace NPU_OP_RESIZE is a U85-only command that the driver does not yet implement. The existing WARN_ON(1) placeholder fires unconditionally whenever userspace submits this command via DRM_IOCTL_ETHOSU_GEM_CREATE, causing unbounded kernel log spam. If panic_on_warn is set the kernel panics, giving any unprivileged user with access to the DRM device a trivial denial-of-service primitive. Replace the WARN_ON(1) with an explicit -EINVAL return so the ioctl rejects the command before it reaches hardware.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-53169 since 06/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 323535 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-53169), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
