CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability marked as critical has been reported in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.12. Affected is the function __tb_property_parse_dir of the component thunderbolt. Performing a manipulation of the argument length results in infinite loop. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-53149. There is no available exploit. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.12. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function __tb_property_parse_dir of the component thunderbolt. The manipulation of the argument length with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: thunderbolt: Bound root directory content to block size __tb_property_parse_dir() does not check that content_offset + content_len fits within block_len for the root directory case. When rootdir->length equals or exceeds block_len - 2, the entry loop reads past the allocated property block. Add a bounds check after computing content_offset and content_len to reject directories whose content extends past the block.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-53149 since 06/09/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 5.10.259, 5.15.210, 6.1.176, 6.6.143, 6.12.94, 6.18.36 or 7.0.13 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5c7657d38d07268124782f03519f07c22a5814fb/b212bc161d8a9937b42153723a4a3f2f74fab528/1912be23daf4afc8d24ce916021ab68ca4c679db/4d0b1524caadb04c10a71f3f88692c63dcb39115/0a32040a48db8cf35de48b85d6115df5623e4964/60ba6217460792356a238299edd675d91d46bab4/cbeb68cbaa0a6f979ef428a7f2d0268c082ba166/65423079c7420e3dbf9a7aa345c243a3f5752e5d is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
