A vulnerability was found in PowerDNS Recursor up to 5.2.10/5.3.7/5.4.2 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Authoritative Handler. Spoofing replies to Recursor might mark an IP of an authoritative server as not supporting EDNS, causing valdiation of DNSSEC records served by that server to fail.
The weakness was published by Mehtab Zafar. The advisory is shared at docs.powerdns.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-52690 since 06/08/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
