Details
A vulnerability has been found in sparklemotion nokogiri up to 1.19.3 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function Nokogiri::XML::Document#root= of the component Garbage Collection Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Nokogiri is an open source XML and HTML library for the Ruby programming language. Prior to 1.19.4, Nokogiri::XML::Document#root= validated only that the new root was a Nokogiri::XML::Node, allowing a DTD node to be set as the document root. The result is a heap use-after-free during garbage collection or finalization, leading to an invalid memory read or potentially a segfault. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.19.4.
