Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in sparklemotion nokogiri up to 1.19.3. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Nokogiri::XML::Node. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Nokogiri is an open source XML and HTML library for the Ruby programming language. Prior to 1.19.4, XInclude substitution performed by Nokogiri::XML::Node#do_xinclude replaced each in place, freeing the include node along with its children (such as and its descendants) and any namespaces declared on them. If an application had already exposed one of those nodes or namespaces to Ruby, the corresponding Ruby object was left pointing at freed memory. Using the object could result in invalid reads or writes to memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.19.4.

The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-57438 since 06/24/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
