Details
A vulnerability was found in pnpm up to 10.33.3/11.3.x. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the file pnpm-lock.yaml. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a data authenticity vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-345. The product does not sufficiently verify the origin or authenticity of data, in a way that causes it to accept invalid data. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
pnpm is a package manager. Prior to 10.34.0 and 11.4.0, `pnpm install` in non-frozen mode can accept new remote package content after detecting that the downloaded tarball does not match the integrity recorded in pnpm-lock.yaml. When a package is already locked with an integrity value, and the registry later serves different metadata and tarball content for the same package name and version, pnpm initially reports an integrity mismatch. However, plain pnpm install then performs a resolution repair, accepts the registry's new integrity, updates the lockfile, installs the new content, and exits successfully. This means the lockfile integrity check does not act as a hard stop by default. This vulnerability is fixed in 10.34.0 and 11.4.0.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-50573 since 06/04/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 10.33.4 or 11.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
