Details
A vulnerability was found in Ingres database server 2.6 (Database Software) and classified as very critical. This issue affects the function uuid_from_char. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in Ingres database server 2006 9.0.4, r3, 2.6, and 2.5, as used in multiple CA (Computer Associates) products, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via the (1) uuid_from_char or (2) duve_get_args functions.
The weakness was shared 06/25/2007 by Chris Anley with NGSSoftware (Website). The advisory is shared at supportconnectw.ca.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3338 since 06/21/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
