Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (cpu consumption) via a PNG image with crafted (1) Width and (2) Height values in the IHDR block.

The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was released 06/27/2007 (Website). The advisory is available at xsec.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-7210 since 06/27/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Preddy and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
