Details
A vulnerability was found in OFFIS DICOM DCMTK Toolkit up to 3.7.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Single-process Mode. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
An unauthenticated remote attacker can repeatedly send a single crafted connection request to leak memory. Against storescp in its default single-process mode, memory grows quickly and the service is eventually killed, after which it stops accepting connections until an operator restarts it.
The weakness was presented by Abhinav Agarwal. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-50254 since 06/22/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy.
