Details
A vulnerability was found in ImageMagick up to 7.1.2-12. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function LoadOpenCLDeviceBenchmark of the component XML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
ImageMagick before 7.1.2-13 contains a memory leak vulnerability in LoadOpenCLDeviceBenchmark() function when parsing malformed OpenCL device profile XML files with unclosed device elements. Attackers with write access to the OpenCL cache directory can place malicious XML files to exhaust memory and cause denial of service.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-56364 since 06/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely.
