Linux Kernel up to 7.0.12 net rds_ib_setup_qp allocation of resources

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.12. Affected is the function rds_ib_setup_qp of the component net. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: rds: clear i_sends on setup unwind The RDS IB connection teardown path is written so it can run during partial startup and on repeated shutdown attempts. It uses NULL pointers to distinguish resources that are still owned from resources that have already been released. When rds_ib_setup_qp() fails after allocating i_sends but before allocating i_recvs, the sends_out path frees i_sends without clearing the pointer. A later shutdown pass can still treat that stale pointer as a live send ring allocation. Clear i_sends after vfree() in the error unwind path so the existing shutdown logic continues to use the correct ownership state.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-53355 since 06/09/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 5.10.259, 5.15.210, 6.1.176, 6.6.143, 6.12.94, 6.18.36 or 7.0.13 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 66cccec111421a10efdc2c74499d15b93e7acae5/2c5e5e4a5970c41f16e3ad801a78719ed5d5c71b/29d940026dce39e3018dab6f67c9427249321270/e7cf30aa5f1fc6c2a86df65df8b731df20e44d79/f16ad421a4e3e7db2d14bdf3b16f583bc4f3b30a/1d4ec754ee3871f7e3670c67bb0298c9c5760926/27040bbca289a704eafcacca167d310c6ce2b1bc/20cf0fb715c41111469577e85e35d15f099473e0 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
