Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in search.php in Google Custom Search Engine allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the q parameter. NOTE: this issue is disputed by the Google Security Team, who states that "Google does not provide the 'search.php' script referenced. When a user creates a custom search engine, we provide them with a block of javascript to include on their site. Some users write additional code around this block of javascript to further customize their website.

The weakness was released 06/15/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at attrition.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-3484 since 06/28/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:search.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
