A vulnerability was found in Qt-cute QuickTalk forum 1.3 (Forum Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the file qtf_checkname.php. The manipulation of the argument lang with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in QuickTalk forum 1.3 allow remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) sequence in the lang parameter to (1) qtf_checkname.php, (2) qtf_j_birth.php, or (3) qtf_j_exists.php.

The weakness was presented 06/27/2007 by Katatafish (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3505 since 07/02/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
