A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Claroline 1.8.3 (Learning Management Software). This issue affects an unknown code block of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument _SERVER with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Claroline 1.8.3 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the PATH_INFO (PHP_SELF) to (1) index.php, (2) demo/claroline170/index.php, and possibly other scripts.
The weakness was published 03/11/2007 by Fernando Munoz (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3517 since 07/03/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
