Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in TinyPNG Plugin up to 3.6.13 on WordPress. Affected is the function delete_converted_image_size. The manipulation of the argument convert.path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The TinyPNG – JPEG, PNG & WebP image compression plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the delete_converted_image_size function in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.13. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with author-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). An attacker can exploit this by injecting an arbitrary server file path into the 'convert.path' field of the 'tiny_compress_images' post meta on an attachment they own, then triggering attachment deletion to invoke the vulnerable code path.
The weakness was presented by lhking. The advisory is available at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-7311 since 04/28/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 3.6.13 eliminates this vulnerability.
