Details
A vulnerability was found in HestiaCP up to 1.9.4. It has been rated as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function is_dns_record_format_valid/update_domain_zone of the component DNS Record Validator/Parser. The manipulation of the argument dns_record_type with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
HestiaCP before 1.9.5 contains an authenticated OS command injection vulnerability that allows low-privilege authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands as root by injecting a single-quote character into unvalidated DNS record types. Attackers can exploit insufficient input validation in is_dns_record_format_valid() combined with unsafe eval-based parsing in update_domain_zone() to prematurely close a variable assignment string and achieve full root code execution on the underlying host in a single DNS record creation step.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-30007 since 03/13/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 07/10/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
Upgrading to version 1.9.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
