Details
A vulnerability has been found in websocket-driver up to 0.8.0 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component HTTP Header Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
websocket-driver is a WebSocket protocol handler with pluggable I/O. Prior to 0.8.1, when websocket-driver is used to implement a WebSocket server on top of a TCP server using WebSocket::Driver.server() or to complement a WebSocket client, a peer can make a single connection consume an unbounded amount of memory by sending an HTTP request or response with a never-ending list of headers. This can lead to the receiving process running out of memory. This issue is fixed in version 0.8.1.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-54465. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
