JBERGER Mojo::JWT up to 1.1 HMAC Signature Verification decode comparison

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in JBERGER Mojo::JWT up to 1.1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function decode of the component HMAC Signature Verification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a comparison vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-697. The product compares two entities in a security-relevant context, but the comparison is incorrect, which may lead to resultant weaknesses. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Mojo::JWT versions before 1.02 for Perl verify HMAC signatures with a non-constant-time string comparison. The decode() method compares the supplied signature to the recomputed HMAC with Perl's eq operator, which stops at the first differing byte, so the comparison time varies with the number of matching leading bytes. A caller that decodes attacker supplied tokens leaks the expected signature through this timing variation, which can be aggregated over many requests to recover the signature and forge a token.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-9537 since 05/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 1.02 eliminates this vulnerability.
