Linux Kernel up to 6.12.91/6.18.33/7.0.10 block block/blk.h bio_integrity_copy_user bip_vec out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.91/6.18.33/7.0.10. This issue affects the function bio_integrity_copy_user of the file block/blk.h of the component block. Performing a manipulation of the argument bip_vec results in out-of-bounds. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2026-64053. The attack can be initiated remotely. There is not any exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.91/6.18.33/7.0.10. This affects the function bio_integrity_copy_user of the file block/blk.h of the component block. The manipulation of the argument bip_vec with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: don't overwrite bip_vcnt in bio_integrity_copy_user() bio_integrity_add_page() already sets bip_vcnt to 1 for the bounce segment. Overwriting it with nr_vecs breaks bip_vcnt <= bip_max_vcnt on WRITE (bip_max_vcnt is 1), so the gap-merge checks in block/blk.h read past the bip_vec[] flex array. On READ the read is in bounds but lands on a saved user bvec instead of the bounce. The line was added for split propagation, but bio_integrity_clone() doesn't copy bip_vcnt and BIP_CLONE_FLAGS excludes BIP_COPY_USER.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-64053 since 07/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/19/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.92, 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
