Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.9. Affected is the function check_stable_address_space of the component mm migrate_device. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deadlock vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-833. The product contains multiple threads or executable segments that are waiting for each other to release a necessary lock, resulting in deadlock. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/migrate_device: fix spinlock leak in migrate_vma_insert_huge_pmd_page When check_stable_address_space() fails after the PMD spinlock has been acquired via pmd_lock(), the code jumps directly to the abort label, bypassing the spin_unlock() call in unlock_abort. This causes the PMD spinlock to be permanently held, leading to a deadlock. Change the goto target from abort to unlock_abort to ensure the spinlock is always released on this error path.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-64129 since 07/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
