Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.91/6.18.33/7.0.10. Affected is the function netfs_invalidate_folio of the component Netfs. The manipulation of the argument dirty_offset with an unknown input leads to a remote privilege escalation vulnerability. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfs: Fix partial invalidation of streaming-write folio In netfs_invalidate_folio(), if the region of a partial invalidation overlaps the front (but not all) of a dirty write cached in a streaming write page (dirty, but not uptodate, with the dirty region tracked by a netfs_folio struct), the function modifies the dirty region - but incorrectly as it moves the region forward by setting the start to the start, not the end, of the invalidation region. Fix this by setting finfo->dirty_offset to the end of the invalidation region (iend).
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-64157 since 07/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 07/19/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.12.92, 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
