This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2026-64170. The attack must be carried out locally. There is no available exploit.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.10. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function probe of the component Qup. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: qup: fix error pointer deref after DMA setup failure The driver falls back to PIO mode if DMA setup fails during probe. Make sure to the clear the DMA channel pointers on setup failure to avoid dereferencing an error pointer (or attempting to release a channel a second time) on later probe errors or driver unbind. This issue was flagged by Sashiko when reviewing a devres allocation conversion patch.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-64170 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
