Linux Kernel up to 6.18.33/7.0.10 KVM SVM denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.33/7.0.10. This issue affects an unknown function of the component KVM SVM. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: SVM: Disable AVIC IPI virtualization on Hygon Family 18h (erratum #1235) Hygon Family 18h CPUs are derived from AMD Family 17h (Zen1) silicon and share the same erratum #1235: hardware may read a stale IsRunning=1 bit during ICR write emulation and silently fail to generate an AVIC_IPI_FAILURE_TARGET_NOT_RUNNING VM-Exit on the sending vCPU. The absence of the VM-Exit causes KVM to miss the required wakeup of blocking target vCPUs, leading to hung vCPUs and unbounded delays in guest execution. Extend the existing AMD Family 17h erratum #1235 workaround to also cover Hygon Family 18h. With IPI virtualization disabled, KVM never sets IsRunning=1 in the Physical ID table, so every non-self IPI generates a VM-Exit and is correctly emulated.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-64172 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/20/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 6.18.34 or 7.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-45857). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
