Linux Kernel up to 7.0.11 Iio Gyro write_raw sampling_frequency divide by zero

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.11. It has been classified as critical. This impacts the function write_raw of the component Iio Gyro. This manipulation of the argument sampling_frequency causes divide by zero. This vulnerability is registered as CVE-2026-63933. The attack needs to be launched locally. No exploit is available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0.11. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function write_raw of the component Iio Gyro. The manipulation of the argument sampling_frequency with an unknown input leads to a divide by zero vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-369. The product divides a value by zero. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: gyro: adis16260: fix division by zero in write_raw Add a validation check for the sampling frequency value before using it as a divisor. A user writing zero to the sampling_frequency sysfs attribute triggers a division by zero in the kernel.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-63933 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 5.10.259, 5.15.210, 6.1.176, 6.6.143, 6.12.93, 6.18.35 or 7.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability.
