Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in kilbot WCPOS Plugin up to 1.9.8. This affects the function prepare_item_for_response of the component REST API. The manipulation of the argument type with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The WCPOS – Point of Sale (POS) plugin for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Directory Traversal in all versions up to, and including, 1.9.8 via the 'type' parameter parameter. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with shop manager-level access and above, to read the contents of arbitrary files on the server, which can contain sensitive information. Successful exploitation requires supplying context=edit in the request, which bypasses the content-stripping logic in prepare_item_for_response() and returns the traversed file verbatim in the REST API response.

It is possible to read the advisory at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-16078 since 07/17/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
