Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.38/7.1.3 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function fuse_uring_req_end of the component fuse-uring. The manipulation of the argument fuse_req with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fuse-uring: remove request-less entries from ent_w_req_queue to fix NULL deref If a copy into the userspace ring buffer fails, a request will be terminated and fuse_uring_req_end() will set ent->fuse_req to NULL but it will leave the entry on ent_w_req_queue in FRRS_FUSE_REQ state. This can lead to a NULL deref if the request expiration logic scans ent_w_req_queue in the window before the entry is moved off it. Fix this by taking the entry off ent_w_req_queue and changing its state from FRRS_FUSE_REQ to FRRS_INVALID before terminating the request.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-64258 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 07/25/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.39, 7.1.4 or 7.2-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0b466cf1b96e191b06b496c4de79da15315c3a9a/0a7f33010c0e4cd92937e088a54350381fd0fbf2/1c57a69be962d459c5e705f5cb4355b841b3461c is able to eliminate this problem.
