Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc2 USB iso_stream_schedule hcpriv memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc2. This issue affects the function iso_stream_schedule of the component USB. The manipulation of the argument hcpriv with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: free iso schedules on failed submit EHCI and FOTG210 isochronous submits build an ehci_iso_sched before linking the URB to the endpoint queue, and keep the staged schedule in urb->hcpriv until iso_stream_schedule() and the link helpers consume it. If the controller is no longer accessible, or usb_hcd_link_urb_to_ep() fails, submit jumps to done_not_linked before that handoff happens and leaks the staged schedule still attached to urb->hcpriv. Free the staged schedule from done_not_linked when submit fails before the URB is linked and clear urb->hcpriv after the free. The bug was first flagged by an experimental analysis tool we are developing for kernel memory-management bugs while analyzing v6.13-rc1. The tool is still under development and is not yet publicly available. Manual inspection confirms that the bug is still present in v7.1.1. An x86_64 allyesconfig build showed no new warnings. As we do not have an EHCI host controller with a USB isochronous device to test with, no runtime testing was able to be performed.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-64348 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/25/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 5.10.261, 6.6.145, 6.12.96, 6.18.39, 7.1.4 or 7.2-rc3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b0d00d077f9738d215af9b50c74dffab7a1de19f/be5004395dfd0b6ec310db359f887fa396fd0dd2/8890699eea19027ef6e4f9cbcf27cba5e789793f/6bc17a78a05671d303820224fb37ca339c1dc2cb/4bb88aee6b868cbf73bf453f62497802f5fe4769/b9399d25fbb34a05bbe76eeedd730f62ff2670e9 is able to eliminate this problem.
