Summary
A vulnerability categorized as very critical has been discovered in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.39/7.1.3/7.2-rc2. Impacted is the function dwc3_ulpi_setup of the file drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c of the component dwc3. Executing a manipulation of the argument regs can lead to initialization.
This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-64349. It is possible to launch the attack on the local host. There is not any exploit available.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.39/7.1.3/7.2-rc2. It has been declared as very critical. This vulnerability affects the function dwc3_ulpi_setup of the file drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c of the component dwc3. The manipulation of the argument regs with an unknown input leads to a initialization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-665. The product does not initialize or incorrectly initializes a resource, which might leave the resource in an unexpected state when it is accessed or used. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: dwc3: fix dwc3_readl() and dwc3_writel() calls in dwc3_ulpi_setup() The dwc3_ulpi_setup() calls the register read and write calls with dwc3->regs when both these calls take the dwc3 structure directly. Chnage these two calls to fix the following sparse warning, and possibly a nasty bug in the dwc3_ulpi_setup() code: drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:796:45: warning: incorrect type in argument 1 (different address spaces) drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:796:45: expected struct dwc3 *dwc drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:796:45: got void [noderef] __iomem *regs drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:798:40: warning: incorrect type in argument 1 (different address spaces) drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:798:40: expected struct dwc3 *dwc drivers/usb/dwc3/core.c:798:40: got void [noderef] __iomem *regs
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-64349 since 07/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/25/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.40, 7.1.4 or 7.2-rc3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 41a4e80d5af04855e68ac88f5e2cd07fa67287f8/4349e487a1149ff33b65d53427b8aca57f2e4578/e0f844d9d74200d311c6438a0f04270834ba5365 is able to eliminate this problem.
