Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in zip-lib up to 1.0.x. This affects the function isOutsideTargetFolder of the component Caching Mechanism For Path Validation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Versions of the package zip-lib before 1.1.0 are vulnerable to Directory Traversal via the caching mechanism for path validation during the extraction process. An attacker can bypass security checks designed to prevent directory traversal. The intended security function, isOutsideTargetFolder, only checks and caches the path status when the initial directory symlink is created during the first extraction.
It is possible to read the advisory at security.snyk.io. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-17524 since 07/27/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
