A vulnerability was found in IBM DB2 Universal Database up to 9.0 (Database Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function auth_list_groups_for_authid. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in the AUTH_LIST_GROUPS_FOR_AUTHID function in IBM DB2 UDB 9.1 before Fixpak 3 allows attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long argument.
The bug was discovered 08/15/2007. The weakness was released 08/18/2007 by Joshua J. Drake with Application Security, Inc. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-1.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-4423 since 08/18/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
