Details
A vulnerability was found in ai nanoid up to 5.1.15. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function customAlphabet/nanoid of the component non-secure. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
nanoid (Nano ID) before 5.1.16 contains an infinite loop in the customAlphabet and nanoid functions of its non-secure module (nanoid/non-secure). When these functions are given a negative size, the loop counter is decremented from a negative value and never reaches its termination condition, spinning indefinitely and hanging the calling thread. An application that passes an unvalidated, attacker-controlled negative size to these functions is exposed to a denial-of-service condition.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-67214 since 07/28/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
